The climate and biodiversity crisis calls for universities to play an active role in creating just, sustainable, and resilient societies. As researchers, educators, and innovators, we have huge potential to contribute to positive change. Across our institutions, we are now embedding sustainability in the core of our activities, and we can accelerate if we join forces!

Erasmus University Rotterdam will organize its first EUR Sustainability Summit 2024 on Friday, 11 October 2024, which can serve to create  space for collaboration across (applied) universities and knowledge institutes in the Netherlands.

We cordially invite you to participate in this summit to discuss how research, education, engagement, and operations at Dutch (applied) universities and knowledge institutions can have a positive contribution to sustainability.

These are the main topics we will address:

  • Developing fossil fuel guidelines: Building sustainable external partnerships
  • Rethinking operations: Towards future-proof campus management
  • Engaging communities: Designing inclusive sustainability conversations
  • Transforming research: Challenging the neoclassical approach
  • Sustainable education: Educating for the future we want
  • Management & Policy: Empowering your employees to work on sustainability

During the summit we will work towards a National Communique for Dutch Higher Education institutions on Sustainability Transitions. In facilitated conversations per academic discipline*, we will discuss the role of academia in addressing sustainability challenges.

*Including Engineering, Planning, Built Environment, Natural Sciences, Medical & Healthcare, Social Sciences, Humanities and Business, Economics & Entrepreneurship.

Please feel free to share this invitation within your institution; everyone is welcome and can register for this event.
