Planet Pilgrim was an international summer school project at Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall, Sweden.
The team consisted of students from Ireland (ATU), Switzerland (UNILU) and the Netherlands (AUAS).
During this project we focussed on how we could improve the experience and by doing so encourage people to take an international train instead of a plane (SDG 9.1).
For our project we:
- analysed the features from the transport apps of our countries.
- held a survey on why people make a choice between a plane and train journey.
- calculated the emissions of the journeys made by trains instead of planes.
- analysed current EU railway regulations regarding the information in apps and in stations (for example: departure times, delays or where you should wait on the platform)
- developed an idea for a new EU regulation to standardise the data and information systems on a EU level instead of a national level with the goal remove the current "data borders" when using international trains.
In recent developments one of the project members had the chance to discus the findings of this project with a member of the European Parliament.
