Nowruz Celebration at HvA
This initiative was a cultural event held at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) on March 20th to celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Inspired by the joint Christmas lunch organized by UvA and HvA, which provided warmth and community for international students during the holidays, the Nowruz celebration aimed to offer a similar experience, helping students feel closer to home and to one another. The primary goal of the event was to create a sense of belonging, care, and cultural connection among HvA students.

The event focused on international students, particularly those from Persian-speaking backgrounds, as well as Dutch and international students who were interested in learning about different cultures and specifically the traditions of Nowruz. It brought together diverse members of the HvA community through a traditional Haft-Sin table, Persian small bites, and music. The relevance of this initiative was closely aligned with HvA’s core values of diversity, inclusion, and student well-being. It built on the university’s tradition of culturally inclusive gatherings and strengthened its efforts to support students who are far from home during meaningful cultural occasions.
